Like any other tribe, the Maragoli people have names for the months in their language. As you’ll see, these names often correspond with the seasons and natural events of the year.

3. Mweri gwa Kavaga – March
Umweri gwi Vimera

4. Umweri gwa Kane – April
Umweri gwukwigala Uvukusi or Mweri gwi Risembera

5. Umweri gwa Katano – May
Umweri wi Zing’ora

6. Umweri wa Sita – June
Umweri gwi Kiyange

Each month in Maragoli reflects a connection to nature and agricultural practices, highlighting how deeply intertwined the community is with the natural world and its cycles.

  • The people of Israel had similar naming system, day 1, day 2, month 1, 2 and so on. Pagans came and named days of the week after their deities, also months of the years with their calendar system. We had a Bantu calendar that is akin to the people of the book.
