The Cross Is God’s Perfect Gift For You This Valentine

Valentine’s Day. What images do those two words bring to mind? Hearts? Flowers? Chocolates? Teddy bears? I choose to look at it in a much different way; God’s Love.

If you’re like a lot of people, you may have found yourself doubting God’s love for you at some point in your life. This frequently happens when you’re faced with tough decisions, financial concerns, emotional or physical heartache, or a death of someone close to you.

Instead of living in a fog of doubt, why not instead look to I John 4:9-10 for this Scriptural truth:

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

John is telling us that God is love. And not only that, He showed His love by sending His son to die for us. We hear this story a lot around Easter, but what about the rest of the year when you need reassurance?

Whenever you doubt God’s love for you, go back to what happened on the cross. God loved you enough to give His Son to die for you, in spite of how you lived your life. Having given you the priceless gift He did, there is no way He can NOT love you.

In the words of Dr. Ravi Zacharias, one apologetic, I have come to deeply appreciate & admire in the Apologetic circles, he say, ” I sometimes think about the cross, and shut my eyes and try to see the cruel nails and crown of thorns and Jesus Crucified for me. But even could I see him die, I would but see a little part of that great love which like fire is always burning heart. You are valuable to God, don’t ever minimize your individuality. The very word INDIVIDUALITY which means you cannot be divided up. You are unique & a composite fashioned in the image of God for a particular purpose.”

A few years ago in a UN prayer breakfast, Ravi was asked to speak about “The Search for Absolutes in a Relativistic Culture.” I liked how he responded in a Christian perspective.

“There are four areas in which we look for absolutes: Evil, Justice, Love and forgiveness.” After a few minutes of discussion, he asked the delegates present this question; where in the world did this four converge at a moment in history? He went a head to answer and this his response brought the clarity of the Love of God to mankind. “I will take you to a hill Calvary, and show you the person of Jesus Christ, who shows you the evil in your heart and mine, who was just and the justifier who loved us greatly to give himself for us and he said, “Father, forgive them as they don’t know what they are doing.””

What a loving God who sent his only begotten son to die for our sins. For God so loved the world that he came, for God so loved the world that he gave, and this can be summarized by this, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. The Cross is God’s Valentine for you. See His, “I Love You,” written in Red. His Blood for you.
