Taking Back What Belongs To Us
There are battles in life that cannot be won by mere words or casual prayers. The Messiah Himself revealed a deep spiritual truth when He told His disciples, “This kind can only come out by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29). This left me with a profound question: If some attacks require prayer and fasting for deliverance, why do people run to so-called “men of God” instead of standing in faith, fasting, and commanding that attack to leave in Jesus’ name?
This week, during a powerful session of prayer, I encountered a deeper revelation from Luke 11:21-22, where the Messiah explains: “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his house, his possessions are safe. But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder.”
From this scripture, a few powerful insights emerged:
- The strongman is the enemy – Satan and his strongholds keep people captive through fear, doubt, generational curses, sickness, financial struggles, and anything that hinders our walk in the power of God.
- God is the Stronger Man – Our Father in heaven has already conquered the enemy. The battle is already won, but we must enforce our victory through prayer, fasting, and immersing ourselves in His Word.
Recognizing the Strongman’s Grip
How do you know that the strongman has taken center stage in your life, destiny, or generation? The enemy gains access through various entry points, including:
- Generational Curses – You notice patterns in families: poverty repeating itself, a cycle of failed marriages, or a trend of premature deaths. What affected your ancestors begins to manifest in your own life. But in Christ, we are redeemed from every curse (Galatians 3:13).
- Sin and Disobedience – Willful sin grants the enemy legal access to oppress us. The more we engage in rebellion against God’s word, the stronger the strongman’s grip. Repentance and surrender are key to breaking free.
- Fear and Doubt – These weaken our confidence and faith, blocking our breakthroughs. The moment we begin to question God’s promises, the enemy takes advantage. But God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
- Unforgiveness and Bitterness – Many families remain divided because of past conflicts. Brothers stop talking, sisters hold grudges, and bitterness becomes an open door for oppression. Forgiveness is not weakness—it is warfare!
- Witchcraft and Evil Covenants – Sometimes, people unknowingly inherit demonic covenants from their ancestors. These agreements continue to operate unless they are broken through prayer and fasting. No generational bondage is greater than the blood of Jesus!
Enforcing Victory Through Prayer and Fasting
Isaiah 54:17 declares, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall arise against you in judgment, you shall condemn.” This is our heritage! The strongman only thrives where there is ignorance, but when we rise in the knowledge of Christ, we overthrow every stronghold.
To enforce victory, we must:
- Engage in Prayer and Fasting – This is our spiritual weapon to break barriers and enforce the authority of Christ in our lives. When we pray and fast, we align with divine power.
- Declare God’s Word – The enemy cannot stand against the power of God’s promises. Speak life over every situation. Personalize scriptures in your prayers.
- Break Generational Curses – Identify patterns in your family and renounce them in Jesus’ name. Declare that you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- Forgive and Release – Close the door to the enemy by forgiving those who have wronged you. Release them in prayer and free yourself from bondage.
- Renounce Evil Covenants – If there are any family altars or practices linked to darkness, renounce them and declare freedom through the blood of Jesus.
The strongman may think he has a grip, but we serve the Stronger Man! When we rise in prayer and fasting, we enforce the victory that has already been won. Let us take back what belongs to us in Jesus’ name!
This is not just theory—this is spiritual reality! Walk in it, enforce it, and testify of God’s power!
