The Power of Prophesying to Your Dry Bones

The Power of Prophesying to Your Dry Bones

In my community, an occasion isn’t truly complete without chicken. It’s a symbol of celebration and hospitality. We have a unique way of eating chicken—no meat is left on those bones. We ensure the bones are white, and sometimes we even crush them to extract the marrow. This thorough consumption might seem intense, but it lays the foundation for an interesting story from the Bible, found in Ezekiel 37:1-14, that powerfully speaks of bones.

Ezekiel recounts, “The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?'” (Ezekiel 37:1-3).

Imagine asking your mother if the chicken bones, picked clean and crushed for marrow, could live again. It might sound foolish, but here it’s the Most High asking Ezekiel this profound question.

God then commands Ezekiel to prophesy to these dry bones: “‘Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” (Ezekiel 37:4-6).

Ezekiel, despite any doubts, obeys the command. From verse 7 onwards, we see the miraculous revival of the bones as they come to life with breath entering them from all directions.

You might feel like these dry bones today. Perhaps nothing you do or touch seems to come to life—your gifts, your talents, everything feels dead. But remember, the Most High commands us to prophesy to these bones. Your bones represent the challenges and dead ends you’re facing. Speak life into them. Pronounce healing over your body, your finances, your relationships, and your circumstances.

Verse 14 promises, “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.”

If you are discouraged or on the verge of giving up, I urge you today to speak to your situation. We have a Father who is ready to turn things around for our good. Prophesy to those dry bones, and witness the transformation that only He can bring. There is hope, and it lies in speaking life into our dead situations, trusting in the power of the Almighty.
